Hello and good day.
I'm new to this forum and I already have a question.
I drive a Škoda Superb 2.5 TDI (120 kW) with Tiptronic transmission, manufactured in 2006. I am also very satisfied with the car. So far, the repairs have been relatively minor.
Last December, the PDC (Parking Distance Control) system was acting up again, so I went to my workshop to have the error codes read. The mechanic from the independent garage said he couldn't access the control unit with his diagnostic tool. So, I went to the official VAG dealership, but with the same result. Even at Skoda, they told me to go to a Bosch service center. That's where I was today, because my Superb also makes a strange noise above 3700 RPM. The technician from Bosch walked around the car and immediately connected some cables. Nothing... Then he put it on a lift and tried connecting the cables differently... STILL NOTHING... He said he just couldn't access the control unit either.
What could it be? Which control unit is the diagnostic connector actually connected to? Is there a fuse that might be defective? I'm starting to panic...
I would be grateful for any help or answers you can provide.
Regards,
Bernd.

Hello,
I just read your thread. I had a similar issue myself once, but it turned out to be user error because I didn't have the ignition on when I was reading the fault codes.
While it's hard to imagine this happening at three different workshops, you never know.
Best regards,
Markus

If there are faults on the diagnostic pins of the 16-pin OBD connector, such as a short circuit to ground or +12V, VCDS will indicate this.
When you click on 'Test', a pop-up message appears. Additionally, you can tell the status by looking at the LED indicator directly on the diagnostic cable (it will be red instead of green).
If you don't have VCDS or your system can't perform the test, you can use a multimeter. Potential causes could include incorrectly connected aftermarket radios, for example.
Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you for the information. The diagnostic connector has power. All cables have been tested and are intact. We also suspect the radio might be the issue. However, it is the original one. In addition, a THB hands-free system is installed. Could the problem be related to that as well?
Can H3 LEDs also prevent the "diode check" error? I have configured the fog lights as daytime running lights (DRLs) and installed LEDs at the same time.
Regards,
Bernd.

As my "friendly" service advisor has confirmed, the diagnostic interface in the instrument cluster is likely defective. This means: a new instrument cluster for €950. Or does anyone have another solution?

Could you explain the abbreviations THB, FSE, TFL, and H3 LEDs to me?
I like to learn new things.
Thank you.

The question was not meant to be rude.
If a repair is still possible...
Okay, I will translate the text from German to English, assuming 'Fa. ECU' is part of the original text and should be included in the translation. Please provide the text you want me to translate.
They are relatively inexpensive.

THB = Manufacturer.
FSE = Free- speech recognition device.
TFL = T agf ahrl euchten.
H3 LED = One or more high-performance LEDs that have an H3 base, used for example to install them in the fog light as a daytime running light (DRL). Of course, this is not permitted. MfG. Michael
