Hello Diesel Mechanic Community,

I finally managed to install the GRA (Gearbox Ratio Adaption) lever in my 2006 Audi A4 2.7 TDI Avant. It features a multi-function display with Bluetooth, telephone integration, voice control, and radio controls.
I coded the steering column module (8E0 953 549 Q) with the following values: 04042.
After that, I entered the GRA release code in the MSG.
Here's my problem:

When the GRA lever is activated, absolutely nothing happens. Oh, the GRA indicator light isn't turning on.
However, the lever itself is working. I checked the functionality of the GRA functions in the advanced measurement blocks within the steering column module.
I don't know what to do next.
Have I forgotten something?

EDIT:
I am also unable to access the MSG system with the login code 12233.
Even though I had the ignition on for 10 minutes after what was supposedly a wrong input.

Who says that 12233 icon_wink.gif actually works with this engine?

Are ALL the buttons/movements of the GRA lever recognized by the Motor Control Unit (ECU)?

Hi,
I'm not seeing an access code displayed in a bubble either.
Functions that I have now verified:
on/off
SET
"The increase and decrease buttons, as well as the resume function, are all displayed and become active when the lever is engaged."
Is it possible that I can't log in to the MSG system with the correct code, which is preventing me from activating the GRA at all?

The correct code is not 12233. But it should be like always.

11463 - Activate GRA.
16167 - Deactivate GRA.

Yes, that's what I did. I used the code provided above as the login code. But nothing is happening.
And even after that, nothing works... I've tried it 10 times already...

You can tell if it is activated by the 'G' in/behind the part number, etc. icon_wink.gif

And THEN, the MSG (Message) must also indicate that the switch states are being recognized.

In newer models, the GRA lamp only turns on when the control system is actively operating. Not like in the Golf IV days, when the light would illuminate to indicate that the GRA (automatic emergency braking system) was generally ready for use...
If the lamp doesn't light up when it's turned on, that might initially seem normal.

Okay,
I took another, more focused look at the story today.
Steering wheel coding is successful. I can see the functions of the switch operation in the motorcycle's control unit (ECU), and something actually happens when I check it.

Okay, let's talk about MSG:
In Encoding II, I entered the GRA activation code and received a message confirming that the code had been successfully accepted.
Then I wanted to check the function of the MWB 006 in the MSG, and lo and behold: nothing happened.
"In the status, I have 00001100, and in the switch position, I have 00000001, and nothing changes even when I move the lever."

icon_sad.gif

I'm about to give up...

!EDIT!:
I've started all over again.
Now I also see in the MWB 06 documentation that the bits switch when the GRA lever is operated.
However, it is still not functional. While driving, absolutely nothing happens...

Best regards, Andy.

First, please post the complete vehicle scan results...
Please attach a Screenshot of the VCDS control unit information for the engine control unit as an attachment.

Best regards, Rainer.

At least, GRA (Gasoline Direct Injection) is activated in the engine control unit, so there's no immediate need for action.

If the GRA (Ground Fault Relay) switch statuses are not displayed in the MWB6 system, the engine control unit will not detect them.
Possible causes: A wire may have been forgotten during the GRA (Gear Range Adapter) wiring (if applicable, as I haven't yet installed a GRA on this model), or the steering column control unit may not be transmitting the data correctly to the engine control unit.

What does measurement block 4 from the steering column control unit say?

Best regards, Rainer.

The switch statuses are now being displayed. So, when the lever is activated, the 0s and 1s flip around icon_smile.gif.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
I didn't have to do any wiring; it was just a matter of plugging in the GRA lever and it was ready.

The switch appears to be functioning correctly in both the MSG (Message Center) and the steering column control unit. See images.

Did you also drive faster than 30 km/h when you tried out your GRA?

Try driving at 50 km/h, turn on GRA (Grade Reduced Assist), press the "Set" button, and then take your foot off the accelerator.
Warning: If the switches for the clutch or brake are not working correctly, the GRA will immediately be deactivated.
Please check their function (MWB in the engine control unit). For details on the bits, see the label file opened as text.

Best regards, Rainer.

Yes... I've already driven faster than 30 icon_cool.gif.

Okay, then I'll go ahead and check those switches. There must be some kind of silly mistake.

Okay, so...
Good news.
Clutch switch broken. I've temporarily bypassed it, and sure enough, it works.
