Gasoline Questions Allowed?

I have a question about the 1.8-liter engine from the 827 series of Audi engines. Or is this not allowed here?

No, seriously, this is a great forum, and I didn't want to violate any of the rules.

It's an Audi A3 with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, identified by the code AGN. It features mechanical gas control with idle stabilization, a mass airflow sensor (MAF), an intake air temperature sensor, and Bosch Motronic 3.8.5 engine management system.

"I've observed the following symptoms. When the engine is cold, it pulls well from around 2300 RPM, but as soon as it warms up, it doesn't start pulling until about 3200 RPM. The spark plugs are new, the error memory is clear, the throttle body has been cleaned, and the mass airflow sensor (MAF) is working correctly. Is this normal, or could it be related to the coolant temperature sensor? It does rev freely; even in 5th gear, it hits the rev limiter if I'm not careful. It's kind of like the "summer weakness" you see in TDI engines. But I find it strange."

The engine has virtually nothing in common with a TDI...

No turbocharger, just a naturally aspirated intake manifold.
No EGR.

Possibly, it injects more fuel to warm up the catalytic converter when it's cold, or the shift intercooler might adjust at different times.

"It doesn't have an SSR (Secondary Air System), as those weren't introduced until 08/97. I hadn't even thought about the idle speed increase during cold starts; that could be it. However, it's strange because if it has power at idle, it should also have that power when fully accelerating, even when cold."
