Evening everyone,
I installed a 1Z 1.9 TDI engine from a Golf into a Caddy 2 SDI 9kv.
"Everything is working fantastically except for 2 errors in the MSG: 'implausible brake pedal signal' occurring sporadically. I've already replaced both brake pedal sensors and adjusted the synchronization, but I still get a flashing glow plug indicator after varying amounts of driving time. It's annoying."
The second issue is the speed signal. I've noticed that the head unit (HU) doesn't display the speed in km/h during driving. As far as I know, it's a purple wire, which I also have from the car's electrical system. However, I don't know which pin on the head unit this wire should be connected to.
"Does anyone have a pinout, preferably with wire colors, for the aforementioned MSG (Message Security Gateway)?" |

You still need to complete it. Install the wiring harness from the TDI engine, including the sensors, and the TDI control module (MSG).
Naturally, the SDI and TDI engines, and consequently their control units and wiring harnesses, are different. You will even find differences for 1Z TDI engines, depending on the platform and equipment.
Okay, I understand. Please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hi,
The aforementioned MSG has a part number. Without it, you can't determine the pinout. There is no definitive 1Z MSG.
Did you also replace the wiring to the brake light switches? The brake light switches might be different.
The vehicle's control unit (ECU) should already be able to read the km/h value from the transmission's sensor, without the need for the GRA (presumably a specific component or system).

Herbert, how did you arrive at that statement? To the best of my knowledge, the specifications for all 1Z MSG components from the Golf 3 are identical. While there were several differences between the STG models, even a change from MSA 12 to MSA 15, I'm not aware of any difference in the (external) pinout.
If my memory serves me correctly from a few years ago, you could use part number 021 906 028 BF (MSA15) as an example, or the ending letter C (MSA12, without WFS).
Both part numbers are from my active Golf days, and I'm recalling them from memory. Okay, please don't scold me if I don't remember it correctly anymore.
Greetings.
Guste. |

Okay, I'm completely confused now. There are different messages for "1Z"? Can I not use every message from "1Z"? What are the exact differences?
brake light switch, one of which was integrated into the engine wiring harness... the colors are gray... with white/yellow, and the switch should be open to ground, if I understand correctly. The other switch, which controls the rear lights, is red/white and is a closed circuit, but it's old and hasn't been directly measured yet. I'll check that later.
Does the instrument cluster absolutely need the km/h (kilometers per hour) information? And what could be the reason why my instrument cluster shows nothing, but the speedometer works perfectly? km/h = v signal? It should be white and blue on a Golf 3, I also have one like that... Caddy, purple? I also have one of those... |

Hi,
With the 1Z MSG models, there are already differences, even without considering vehicle-specific variations.
- Engine series with mass airflow sensor, then with mass airflow meter;
- Boost pressure sensor, one inside the MSG (manifold), one external.
- Altimeter, either integrated into the Main System Display (MSG) or located externally;
- Glow plug heater, with or without.
- Water sensor for the diesel filter;
- Immobilizer, with or without;
For the Audi 80 B4 with the 1Z engine, like the one I have, there are at least three different configuration versions (that's how many I have as documentation). According to my repair manual, there are 7 different MSA12 variants for this vehicle type. However, VW/Audi still lists 3 different MSA15 variants as replacements, meaning that not all MSA12 variants can be addressed by simply coding an MSA15 type.
In addition to these, there are also versions used in models like the Golf, Passat, etc.
Okay, I understand. Please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

I've found out that the mentioned vehicle (likely a car) has the following features: no immobilizer, mass airflow sensor, internal pressure measurement, external altitude sensor. |

Okay, I've tested the brake light switch; the yellow/white wire and the ground wire are reaching the control module.
ro/sw on pin 44: no 12V signal, according to the pinout diagram. No connection to the brake light switch that activates the rear lights. |

Okay, I think I found it... first of all, many thanks to webster .
Okay, so in the Caddy wiring harness, the ro/sw (red/black) wire goes to the ws/yellow (white/yellow) wire. Now, I've located the ro/sw cable from pin 44 in the Golf wiring harness, and I've connected the ws/yellow wire to the ro/sw wire. Now, when the brake is applied, there's 12V on pin 44 from the Golf, which should be it.
Another puzzle is that the speedometer shows km/h, but the msg (likely a car computer module) doesn't. I've compared the wiring diagrams for both cars, and the ws/bl (white/blue) wires seem to be the same. I've ordered a different msg... we'll see what happens.
thx to everyone, and hopefully finally an end to the blinking check light and the f***ing implausible brake light switch signal. |

Oh, I'm so sorry.
I'm from the harbor, and my way of speaking is just fine the way it is.
Whoever finds any spelling mistakes is welcome to keep them, and using all uppercase or lowercase letters takes too long for me.
But don't worry, I will try my best to meet your expectations. |

Hello.
Even in the harbor, things are rough but friendly. Just please leave out the offensive words. The best way to get a ship's engine running is when the first mate and the engineer have a friendly and professional conversation.
