But I won't buy something like that for my car unless there's a tax incentive.

Especially what a ridiculous calculation!

According to Schwacke, a vehicle loses €765 in value compared to a vehicle equipped with a particulate filter.

After paying €580 for the particulate filter and €50 for installation, only €135 of the original €765 value remains!

Emission control modifications (such as TR2 systems, catalytic converter retrofits, etc.) that are at least financially worthwhile!

Regards,

Manuel.

"I agree. As long as there's no tax benefit, the installation isn't worth it. I also suspect that the talk about depreciation is just a way to convince people to install these things. Personally, I know that I wouldn't prioritize it when buying a car if there were no tax advantages."

In my opinion, the increased fuel consumption and potential loss of performance will be greater than in cars that have this feature as standard equipment. I think the systems are better integrated in those cases.

People build things like this just so that those who hate diesel engines have no more material to use to criticize them. Diesel soot is supposedly so bad and dangerous. Flour, in the high concentrations used in those 'tests' that supposedly prove it, is also carcinogenic. Furthermore, people who have allergies and blame diesel vehicles should try using less disinfectant. It seems to cloud their judgment. Okay, I've finally vented my frustration. Unfortunately, there are so many complete idiots who actually believe this stuff.

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi,
Without a tax advantage, the depreciation will not change much. On the contrary, the diesel particulate filter will also depreciate in value on its own.
The talk about incompetent wannabe environmentalists can be annoying, especially when they're also chain-smoking...

Probably. At least for me, this wasn't about the actual purpose of a particulate filter or its technical implementation, but rather about a sensational, if not misleading, advertisement.
The subtle jab at people I knew who supported a particular political ideology was right there, even though it wasn't relevant to the topic.

Please don't "post excessively" again.

@diesel.gustav
You really seem to have a problem with Manuel, don't you? icon_twisted.gif
Just leave him alone, even if his bright screen icon_eek.gif annoys you so much.

and it is undoubtedly true that soot is a problem.
or not in this forum?
At the very least, the argument about the flour is really quite basic and unoriginal.
Does anyone know someone who pumps large quantities of flour dust into the environment?

But are cars, especially diesel cars, really still the main polluters today? Aren't there other areas where more urgent action is needed?

Hm, how did they test that? Oh, mice don't react, neither do cows. No one reacts. Let's try it with rats. What, they still don't react? Well then, let's put in pretty high concentrations. Ah, finally. Diesel soot is dangerous. Let's try that with flour and other dusts as well. What, they react to that too? Well then, now we have to sweep something under the rug so that no one finds out. The thing about people during the day is true, but wasn't it exactly the same with lead mining? What about uranium mining? Okay, that's a little different there. For my part, I'm not afraid of diesel soot, but I am afraid of overly zealous Greenpeace types (although I respect those who care about the environment). But the hype about diesel soot is completely wrong. For me, allergies and asthma don't come from diesel soot, but from overly zealous cleaning and excessive use of disinfectants or something like that.

Let's move on to the technical specifications:

According to Twintec, the total emissions are reduced by 40-50%. In the fine print, it states: "measured at a constant speed of 90 km/h". As far as I can remember, a diesel engine hardly produces any soot even under such - almost ideal - conditions. A much more interesting aspect would be the difference during acceleration. Or am I mistaken icon_biggrin.gif?

But the main thing is to have a few children placed strategically for advertising purposes.

I also think that 'Manuel Thomas' (by the way, I'm also a fan of stylish lighting of all kinds -> not for any specific purpose, but just because it looks good icon_wink.gif) is right.
As long as people are only attracted by the environmental aspect, hardly anyone will buy such a thing. Why would they? Everyone thinks: My car is much more environmentally friendly than, for example, all those old Czech-made Liaz vehicles that are still on the road. They should do something about that first. The government needs to get involved and subsidize retrofitting or reward it with significant tax breaks. But the state would rather have people buy new cars to 'boost the economy.' The question is, how are people supposed to afford them?

btw: Does anyone know anything about the durability of these retrofit kits?

Hi,

What I would really be interested in knowing is:

What happens to such a filter if the car has a problem (e.g., the EGR valve is stuck, or the intercooler has a leak) and is therefore producing excessive exhaust fumes?

If the filter is effective, you wouldn't see it anymore, but it would likely destroy the filter within a very short time.

Or should there be a specific sensor for that? At least with the TwinTec part, it doesn't seem like there are any cables connected to it...

Best regards,

Jan.

It shouldn't actually do anything. In my opinion, the Twintec system burns the soot that accumulates in the filter; it has to go somewhere. Presumably, it's due to the heat of the catalytic converter, because the Twintec filter is a combined unit consisting of a catalytic converter and a particulate filter.
