Hello!
I'm new here, and I've already looked through the help section, but unfortunately, I haven't found the exact answer to my question.
I own the car listed below and would like to install a sport tachometer.
Currently, there is a standard speedometer installed with a red MFA (Multifunction Display).
Okay, I don't want to make any major modifications or switch to a different system like FIS, but I simply want to remove my current unit and replace it with a sport model that has the same MFA (multifunction display).

'Do any problems arise with the CAN bus, IMMO2, IMMO3, or other control systems, such as the immobilizer or speedometer calibration? Or can it simply be replaced, and will the new unit work immediately?'

I would be grateful for any personal experiences, suggestions, or tips you might have, as the common online forums dedicated to this topic don't offer much concrete information.

greetings

christoff

Hi,

If the sports speedometer (what exactly is that?) was installed as an option or in special models of your car model, then it should be possible.

AFAIK, the WFS (Web Feature Service) definitely needs to be adjusted -> search function.

I've also read about the 'road closure' issue. It probably needs to be adjusted.
I wouldn't swear that it's available as a special feature for the Highline series, but I've seen this speedometer in several Golfs and Boras, both gasoline and diesel models.

Here's an example:

It does have FIDO, which I don't want, but the appearance is correct. Last week, the same provider offered one with only MFA, but I unfortunately missed the auction. icon_confused.gif

So, I've finally gotten through it all, of course, with a few bumps along the way, as one might expect.

First, let's talk about the expansion:

Okay, first, gently pull the steering wheel out as far as it goes. Then, detach the plastic cover that sits between the steering column and the speedometer from the steering wheel (it's just clipped in, no problem, just gently lift it with a screwdriver and pull it down).
Okay, here's the translation:

'Alright, first test of patience: This plastic cover is quite firmly attached to the speedometer housing itself, but with a little patience, you can get it off.'
The speedometer itself is only attached with two screws. A standard Allen wrench will remove them (be careful not to let the screws fall!).
Die zwei Schnittstellen lösen, indem der jeweilige Hebel am Stecker nach oben gedrückt wird. FSure!

Key pairing:

Using VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System), the usually 8-bit key code can be read from the old speedometer. Note this code and transfer it to the new speedometer.
Enter the service intervals and mileage, then reconnect and tighten everything. However, be careful not to scratch the new speedometer. Otherwise, it will look really bad and significantly detract from the appearance. icon_wink.gif
