Hi!
"From the beginning, my A3 had a slight whistling noise or a fluttering sound when I drove above 160 km/h, but only on the passenger side window. Since I don't often get to drive at higher speeds in Austria anyway, I never really did anything about it."
Now, these wind noises become noticeable from approximately 120 km/h and are now very annoying to me. icon_twisted.gif It sounds as if the window is slightly open, but the window mechanism works perfectly and closes the window correctly. I can reproduce the same noise on the driver's side by pressing against the window at the aforementioned speed. icon_question.gif
Is it possible that something has become misaligned with the power window on the passenger side, causing the window not to close completely and therefore creating wind noise icon_exclaim.gif?
By the way, I checked the rubber seals, and they're still in excellent condition (which would be quite disappointing for a car that's 6 years old).
I would be grateful for any advice }.

Hi,
'I'm experiencing the same problem with my A4. Because I usually drive at slower speeds, I haven't fixed it yet. However, I believe the cause is a leak between the rubber seal and the body of the car. You can check this by having the passenger press the rubber seal against the body of the car with their fingertips while you're driving. In my case, the wind noise disappears when I do that.'
See you later...
Andreas.

The window frame can be adjusted, or have it adjusted. This will cause it to press more firmly against the body, and the noises will no longer occur.

Hello!
Small update: My problem hasn't really improved yet.

@fazViewing profile: faz:
I didn't find anything on the A3's window frame where I could make an adjustment. It's quite a complex part that's connected to the door icon_question.gif.

@hugger:
Okay, I once tried pressing against the window on the driver's side, and I was able to reproduce the noise on that side as well. However, with the A3, the door frame fits perfectly and snugly against the body, or I can't reach any rubber seals. All the rubber seals also look to be in top condition icon_question.gif.

But recently, something interesting happened to me. I was driving on the highway at 160 km/h and didn't hear any wind noise icon_smile.gif. Then, while driving, I switched from recirculation to automatic, and lo and behold... it was noisy like in a birdhouse icon_evil.gif --> Then I switched back to recirculation --> the wind noise disappeared again icon_exclaim.gif. And so I could continue this experiment.

Could there possibly be a leak in the doors now? And what does switching to recirculation mode have to do with it?

Does anyone have any idea?

Hello,
It looks like the air can't escape from the car; the pressure is pushing the window frame outwards.
Best regards,
Günther.

Hello 'wbuchi82',
Is there anything new?
Best regards,

Hi!
Sorry for the delay...

@Günther
Thanks for the tip. I looked into it, but I realized it didn't have any effect on the wind noise. There's an opening under the rear bumper where air can escape from the vehicle's interior, and that's also clear. Also, the wind noise was still present even with the ventilation system completely turned off. It only disappears when I switch to recirculation mode.

Today, after a thorough cleaning of the interior, I decided to try something different. I completely lowered the window on the passenger side, rested the inside of the door on my knee, and then firmly (but carefully icon_lol.gif) pulled the window frame inwards. Additionally, I adjusted the door lock inwards by one notch to potentially achieve more tension.
Then I went for a test drive, and lo and behold, at least up to about 160 km/h, there were no more noises. (Going faster is a bit difficult icon_cool.gif on a country road).
On Monday, I'm going to try it all out on the highway and hope that this action was finally successful icon_rolleyes.gif.

I completely lowered the window on the passenger side, rested the door against my knee from the inside, and then firmly (but of course, gently icon_lol.gif) pulled the window frame inwards.

One shouldn't be surprised; in fact, this is sometimes done even at VAG.

Hello wbuchi82,
So, the 'pre-tension,' with which the door is pressed against the rubber seal, was too low.
And the 'low' air pressure caused by the 'speed' was enough to inflate the 'cheeks' of the windows due to the increased pressure.
Best regards,
Günther.
