Hello,
A friend of mine was constantly having problems with his engine control unit (ECU). Now, he happened to come across a new one (with the same VW part number).
Okay, here's my question: Can the old engine control unit (ECU) simply be replaced with the new one, or are various adjustments necessary? I've read something about immobilizers and ignition timing, but I'm not sure. Are there other things that need to be changed as well?
Best regards,

Hi,
Depending on the control unit (STG), a coding process may be necessary (e.g., to differentiate between manual and automatic transmissions). If a wheel speed sensor (WFS) is present, it must be calibrated to the control unit.
Furthermore, the GRA function would need to be re-enabled (it might also be possible to disable it, but I think that's unnecessary).
Further settings are usually not necessary (unless the 'new' ECU is, for some reason, completely misconfigured).
Best regards, Rudi.
