How can I clean them? Or would it be better to just install new ones? As far as I know, the installation space in the Sharan 7N is quite limited.

Yesterday, the software update regarding the "Dieselgate" issue was supposed to be installed. Before that, I had cleared the error codes because the check engine light was on.

1. I was concerned that the update might not be installable due to error entries related to emissions.
"Did I expect that the AGR (Agricultural Guarantee Fund) would experience more problems after the update?"

Result:
After 3 hours, I received a friendly call informing me that everything was completed and in order.
2. So far, I've driven about 70 km, and I haven't had any error messages since the update.

Because for the past two weeks, I've had persistent DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) errors in the system, and for the past few days, the check engine light has been coming on after about 20 km of driving."

They've obviously installed a new or at least cleaned EGR valve, which will become much dirtier again after the software update, as even more exhaust gases will be routed through it. If you don't clean it yourself from time to time, it can become a very expensive problem.

I cleaned my EGR valve the day before yesterday; it wasn't a problem to take it apart, but it's a really dirty job. Besides that, the intake manifold doesn't look much better, but it hasn't caused any problems so far. However, cleaning that will be a task that dwarfs everything I've done before.

Depending on the age of the vehicle, to prevent stress? Replacing the AGR valve takes about 5 minutes on the BRE engine; of course, I don't know how it's installed on your engine in the Sharan.

"I've heard everything from 3 to 10 hours for this job. The AGR valve is located on the engine block, below the turbo and DPF, near the fuel injection system. It involves removing the DPF and all the hoses that obstruct access to the AGR valve. This is definitely not a quick or easy job."

Since the update, I've driven approximately 450 km. The error persists, as a logical consequence. The day before yesterday, the check engine light was on again. Yesterday, it turned off on its own.

The engine has no power loss and has not yet entered emergency mode.

How can this behavior be explained without any external intervention?

Speculation: Was it knitted with a needle that was too hot, and was it tested too little?
