Hi.

While working on the door panels in my Leon, I just broke a window regulator bracket (see picture, the white part used to be one piece).

And now?
New eFH?

will become very expensive icon_sad.gif

First of all, my condolences!

The Golf IV also always had problems with the window regulators because something would break off. There were repair kits for that. However, as a Passat driver, I don't know if it's exactly the same part. There must be someone here who can confirm or deny that.

You can start by searching online or in other sources for a repair kit; that might help you for now.

Best regards!

Are the sliding pieces available individually? (I couldn't find them.)

Does anyone have the part number?

Or should it be the replacement part?

Based on my experience with G3, I suspect your experience will be similar:
With the G3, they are only available as replacement parts. I tried them out briefly, but re-winding the cables properly is no fun. I think they cost around 70 euros. However, a different plastic part always breaks off, the part that holds the cable jacket in place.

I took that part out yesterday.

It doesn't seem too difficult to get the ropes back onto the reels.

I actually just need a white sliding piece where the ropes can be hooked.

Audi has a part with the number 4B0 837 463.
Is this what you're looking for?

News:

VW: Golf 4 repair kit, EUR 35, includes cables with housings and a "drum," 2 sliding pieces.
The sliding pieces are now made in one piece (cast) and have a plastic sliding surface.
I think these fit the Leon, but PartsMan says "no, they don't fit."

Seat: No replacement part available. Complete window regulator (including rails) is new and costs EUR 57.
I then need to rivet the rails onto the device carriers.

Tonight, I'll get the Leon ready to drive and go to VW with the device carrier. If the sliding pieces can be clipped onto the rails, I'll take the repair kit.

Or has anyone tried this before and would advise against it?

The G4 replacement part does NOT fit.

So, I bought a whole window lifter for 57.58 EUR. icon_evil.gif

and it's made of plastic again.

(and no, the one from the A3 probably won't fit in the Leon either icon_wink.gif).

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMOK

After drilling out the old brackets (which were attached to the supports with 4 rivets), I wanted to attach the new ones.

Forget about it - standard (DIY) pliers can only handle a maximum of 3.0mm pins for 5mm rivets. However, Seat manufactures 3.2mm pins for use with 5mm rivets.

So, I'm going to Seat again today to have them rivet the rails onto the carrier.

It has the advantage that I will also become known there soon icon_rolleyes.gif.

Unfortunately, I didn't understand that. Why aren't you using the 5mm rivets? It's about the 5mm dimension, isn't it? The pin diameter doesn't matter, does it? Or did you also buy the pin rivets from a local supplier, and do they not fit in your pliers? If that's the case, if the local supplier won't help you (for free), you can buy different rivets.

The rivets are included in the 57 EUR power window kit.

However, they don't fit into any pliers I know of, because those pliers can only accommodate up to 3.0 mm.

It's just frustrating, and I didn't know this beforehand; otherwise, I would have already inquired about purchasing it with the mounting plate already attached.

This topic once again impressively demonstrates that the Golf IV platform is a source of many strange anomalies. There are at least 3 different types of window regulator mounting systems. In the A3, the entire door frame with the mounting plate is a single piece. The window panes are mounted on plastic parts (the A3 from 1997 is my only source for this type): these parts are generally okay, but I've repaired a defect on both the left and right sides of a particular vehicle, although it was without a replacement part. I simply cut an aluminum profile to fit and placed it over the broken area, essentially as a clamp, and it works perfectly.
The Golf IV models from the early 2000s had plastic parts that were prone to breaking and have since been replaced with cast metal parts. This seems to have solved the problem. The Leon still has a different plastic part, and it also doesn't seem to be perfect.

WIe sieht es denn beim Golf V aus. Haben die Jungs von VW was gelernt, oder fangen sie wieder mit billigstem Kunststoff an und testen wie lange das gut geht. It would be too sad.

Okay, about those rivets. The Golf had the speakers riveted into the doors. In my case, first the right, then the left woofer in the rear doors failed. I don't listen to music very loudly, and I also only have the original VW MFD (multi-function display), which should be appropriately matched in terms of power. Those also have rivets. The originals didn't fit in my pliers, so I just used thinner ones, because only the size of the speaker itself is the determining factor.

This didn't start with the G4.

Let's take the flexible pipe on the 1Z, AHU, and AFN engines.

The 1Z has a short flexible pipe to which the entire exhaust system is attached. This part tends to break very quickly (my record is 22 months). Because the flexible pipe and the catalytic converter were originally connected, it became very expensive to replace. So, a clamp was simply installed in between. Now, the flexible pipes can be replaced quickly and easily, like topping up windshield washer fluid, but at a cost of 230 EUR.

With the AFN and later the AHU engines, we learned to make the flexible pipe twice as long and to support the exhaust pipe behind it. Although the flexible pipe and catalytic converter are now part of the system again, the pipe should hold like this – and it does.

However, it is not revealed whether the AHU pipe fits the 1Z model, and whether that would resolve the issue. Therefore, all drivers of the modified 1Z models will once again have the drone dispenser installed. icon_evil.gif

I've just finished working on exhaust pipe number three, but now I need a new catalytic converter because I'm switching to an AHU engine... No thanks, I'd rather just install a DPF with a 3C adapter.
