I don't mean to exclude the DPF from the software settings, but rather to modify the software so that the exhaust behavior remains within the tolerance range during the inspection (ASU), even if the DPF doesn't filter as well anymore. I'm not sure what material the internal components of the DPF are made of, but you won't melt ceramic at temperatures like those found in a campfire icon_smile.gif. It might turn white afterwards, but it definitely won't break.

Silicon carbide, with a melting point of approximately 1500°C.

And... a brilliant white? Maybe, but the ash still doesn't burn away because of that... and that's exactly what needs to be eliminated.

Okay, so the glow isn't really a problem. Believe me, after being heated in the glow, you won't see much of the ash anymore. It just needs to be properly burned out. If you only heat the DPF with a few hundred degrees, not much will happen.

What the inspector says about the measured turbidity values is likely to be unfavorable.

Exactly the opposite icon_exclaim.gif.

If the ash doesn't get too hot, it can crumble and fall out (provided the soot is already removed). However, if it gets too hot, the ash can sinter with the monolith, making the DPF impermeable, as if it were glazed.

Furthermore, at the temperatures where this occurs, the stainless steel housing of the DPF can also become brittle and lose its structural integrity. In that case, I would not reinstall it.

Then I didn't do anything wrong by cleaning my DPF with hot water and dish soap? icon_wink.gif In any case, the 206 has become louder "from the back," and I had to remove the DPF anyway because of the (lack of) sealing.

If you have a combination system installed, the oxidation catalyst located before the DPF won't appreciate the dishwasher detergent. However, if it's an underbody filter, it will matter less.

Yes. You've wasted your time. Do you think that any of the powerful people who are forcing this nonsense on us would come to you and advocate for your efforts in environmental protection and "the common good" icon_question.gif?

It's the same situation as with this ridiculous biodiesel additive, combined with a tax on regular fuel. A few wealthy and powerful individuals are benefiting at the expense of everyone else.

"Then there shouldn't be anything there. It's basically just a metal mesh that traps the soot particles, and if enough temperature builds up (due to the catalytic converter and associated load), the soot will burn out. If not, it will simply pass through."

'Ash sintering????? Okay... Did you read that on Wikipedia? Have you ever actually done anything to verschandeln a DPF? It seems not.'

I'm all out of ideas right now, sorry.

Well, as is often the case here. A lot of talking, but no one actually tries anything themselves. My statements aren't just pulled out of thin air. None of you have the courage to try something. Instead, people spend days discussing and listing potential consequences. After a week, you know just as much as you did at the beginning, and 'practically' nothing has happened. Why should this time be any different...? How could I have been so naive?

I'm signing off now. Do whatever you want.

And please spare me the insults.

P.S. Sorry, but I just had to get that off my chest! Now, let's continue with the topic.

Chemically speaking, the substance found in a moped exhaust is the same as that found in the intake manifold (keyword: EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation).
Soot mixed with a small amount of motor oil.

Ash: The problem of sintering/clumping can be observed particularly well in wood chip heating systems. Even with ash removal, some ash may remain in certain areas of the combustion chamber. Because this ash cannot burn further and is exposed to high temperatures for a long time, it becomes pasty and sinters into clumps. These clumps often have to be removed using a hammer and chisel.
The same thing happens with the ash in the DPF, but under normal operating conditions (without regeneration), significantly lower temperatures of only 300-600°C occur. The longer the ash is exposed to high temperatures, the more it can sinter together.
On the one hand, it covers the catalytically active layer, and on the other hand, the pores of the ceramic material are coated with a "glass layer" or slag layer, making them impermeable.

Well, you started with a rather harsh tone, didn't you? icon_wink.gif

And as I already mentioned, there are definitely experiences with getting the DPF working again, but you have to get rid of the ash; ash is different from soot, and it doesn't burn anymore, as has been said repeatedly.

When I was researching this topic back then, I also came to the conclusion that the filters are not blown out, but rather washed and subsequently dried with hot air.

Furthermore, the catalytic coating will likely be damaged if the component is "annealed." This can be tested with uncoated DPFs, but the ash will remain. It would be interesting to see how the coating reacts to water (without using lye).

Are there already any DPFs (Diesel Particulate Filters) in practical use that have had to be replaced due to ash buildup, under normal operating conditions? And if so, at what average mileage?

It's probably better that way.

gibt es in der praxis überhaupt schon DPFs welche wegen des ascheeintrags getauscht werden mussten? im regelbetrieb wohlbemerkt? bei wie viel KM im schnitt?
Yes!
Yes!
It depends more on the driving profile than on the mileage. It can range from 15,000 km to 300,000 km, practically anything is possible.
