Hello,

I've now looked into this more closely, and I've noticed that in workshops, especially with icon_smile.gif, a new DPF is usually installed. Those who have done some research online know that it might also work with a reverse flush.

Now there are already machines that can do that.

http://www.dartec.ch/index.php?id=20

There, the filters are cleaned using compressed air and a suction system in approximately 10 to 20 minutes.
Why is something like this offered to the industry, and why don't we get it?
I find it outrageous coming from the automotive industry.

I will definitely try that method, or use water, if I ever get a blockage.

What kind of experiences have you been able to gain?
Grüße Buddy

Interessante Idee, aber so richtig kann ich der Maschine nicht trauen. Die Website klingt nach meinem subjektiven Empfinden irgendwie, als wäre etwas aus dem chinesischen nicht korrekt übersetzt worden:

Anyone who puts such a text on their homepage cannot be certain of my trust icon_wink.gif.

However, even though I don't think the cleaning machine you mentioned is ideal, I find your question very interesting. My DPF also only has about 50,000 km left before it needs to be replaced...

I imagine that the cost of replacing DPFs (Diesel Particulate Filters) might become more affordable once a larger number of them have been replaced.

Regards,
Sure.

Here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"Guste" means "gust" in English. It refers to a sudden and strong gust of wind.

The poor German might also be due to the fact that it was translated from Austrian German into standard German icon_wink.gif.

Okay, putting the jokes aside, the system consumes approximately 830 liters of air at about 8 bar. So it uses a little more than a normal sandblasting booth. Additionally, it has a vacuum system attached. Basically, it's quite simple. Even with a standard workshop compressor and a vacuum cleaner, you should be able to achieve this, even if it takes longer. What excites me particularly is this simple method of cleaning. It apparently doesn't even require complex physical or chemical cleaning processes. That's why I find it so appalling that icon_smile.gif makes so much money from this. Who knows if they are then reinstalling the uncleaned DPFs for customers, even if they have been refurbished by another company.

You will find my experiences in the search results if they are not already listed.

However, I also see problems with the new, near-engine and additive-free systems that use coated Diesel Particulate Filters (including the catalytic converter).

The coating will inevitably wear out over time.

The older, non-motorized systems are indeed just uncoated ceramic elements that can be flushed clean.

As far as I know, you can get the DPFs replaced relatively cheaply when dealing with French mechanics icon_wink.gif.

Are you saying that you have no knowledge about DPF cleaning systems?

Sorry, aber da muss ich lachen. icon_lol.gif
DPF cleaning systems have been around for as long as the DPF itself. Any workshop can purchase these machines for a significant amount of money. Furthermore, private individuals can also buy these 'washing machines.'

The reason workshops avoid using this principle is simply due to the warranty that must be provided for the work performed. Workshops don't want to tie themselves down with that responsibility. Therefore, new parts are often used instead.

I will definitely try that method, or use water, if I ever experience constipation.

Soak in soapy water and then rinse thoroughly. This is enough for personal use!

This is what happened with the retrofitted DPF on my 1.4 HDI ("open system")! After two years and approximately 70,000 km, it took me an hour and countless rinsing cycles to get clear water out of the black mass when flushing it. I started by using hot water and dish soap.

Why was I even involved? Well, the flexible pipe section between the exhaust and the DPF was leaking and needed to be replaced. It could only be replaced after completely removing the DPF. And since it was already out... icon_wink.gif

Okay!

After a charger malfunction, for example, where the DPF has been exposed to a large amount of (ash-free) engine oil, it may no longer be able to regenerate. The reason is that the catalytic layer has been poisoned. This is particularly noticeable in the temperatures.
During the regeneration of a healthy Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), the temperature downstream of the DPF increases significantly more after ignition compared to the temperature before ignition.
If the catalytically active material is poisoned, this process will no longer occur, and the filter loading will not decrease.

UI, I'll have to keep an eye on that. So far, I've only noticed the intense heat radiation when it was turned off while still running "in the middle."

Does it look like that? (Just kidding.)

You'll notice it even if you briefly run it in limp mode during a forced regeneration. You won't be able to keep your hand behind the exhaust pipes for long, even though there's supposedly no significant late injection (at least according to the map for regeneration mode on the 1.9 engine).

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to see the monoliths during the regeneration process yet. And by the time that thing is removed, it will probably be cold again icon_rolleyes.gif (especially with this stupid heat shield in the center tunnel icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif icon_evil.gif).

However, when cleaning, especially if it's not a wet cleaning process, be sure to use respiratory protection that filters out fine dust particles. These particles are highly likely to enter the lungs, and once they do, they tend to stay there.

Can't you just throw the thing into a bonfire for half an hour, let it glow properly, shake out the soot from the DPF, take it to a tuner to have the software adjusted if the DPF has been damaged by this process, so that it passes the emissions test... and that's it?

I remember that from my earlier days with mopeds.

Hello,

Sure, you can disable the DPF through software after drilling a hole in it.

It seems they are very focused on getting other people's money. The service suffers as a result. Also, the suppliers who offer these services for commercial vehicles often don't provide them for passenger cars, which I find unacceptable. In other cases of difficult-to-estimate repairs, they usually offer alternatives to replacement. This just frustrates me.
I intended to express my opinion and point others towards alternatives.

I am aware that one cannot live on air and love alone icon_wink.gif. I only find the relationships discussed in connection with this topic to be inappropriate.

Does soapy water suffice, or does the DPF also require something more aggressive?

Of course, alternatives are offered. Or where do you think Volkswagen gets its "X" parts from?

Quote:

Even suppliers who are capable of doing this and sometimes offer it for commercial vehicles don't provide it for passenger cars.

Of course, they also offer this service for DPFs in passenger cars. However, it's not available to end customers! That remains the exclusive domain of the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). And there are good reasons for that -> it concerns emissions control and ensuring its effectiveness. Therefore, this is neither suitable for a small workshop nor for hobbyists.
All DPFs that are removed are completely processed for refurbishment. However, whether they are actually suitable for refurbishment is determined only at that point. This is because possible mechanical damage also plays a role. In such cases, the parts can only be used for melting down.
