I thought the braking performance in dry conditions primarily depended on the brake pads.
My brake discs have some dust in the grooves, but as I said, that shouldn't matter on a dry road.
What bothers me is the poor braking performance at high speeds.
I was thinking about just replacing the brake pads, maybe with FERODO DS2000.
I once swapped the original brake pads on my motorcycle for sport brake pads (sintered metal), and the difference was incredible. Much more precise and with more bite.

What kind of brake pads are you using right now? Brake pads start to release gas under high stress. This gas then acts as a lubricant, which reduces friction. The holes in the brake disc and the grooves in the Powerdisk are now designed to vent the gas, thereby reducing the loss of friction.

I believe the brakes are currently ATE brake pads. I also notice every time I drive a different car how poorly mine brakes, and even my girlfriend's 323 Mazda from 1992 brakes better. I just ordered some FERODO DS2000 brake pads, just for fun.
Okay, I'll also go ahead and change the brake fluid.
Let's see what it brings.

If those are indeed ATE pads, then the situation is clear. I had to replace them after only 3000 km because the braking performance was disastrous. We've already discussed this topic here: /viewtopic.php?t=8141. Something like that should be banned. However, the approximately 5 m/s² acceleration that the legislator requires for the vehicle – I would need to check the exact value – they might just barely be able to achieve.

Okay, I also have the PowerDisk brakes because I wanted to see if it would improve the "panic braking" issue. However, nothing really changed with my C4. I do drive very cautiously, though. Still, I notice that there's a slight delay before they actually and effectively brake. The brake pads are all from ATE, which I'll change when they need replacing. Recently, I unfortunately had to go to the eye doctor, and my neighbor drove me there in my car. He immediately asked me if my brakes were "worn out," which made me think. A few days later, I took all four wheels off and thoroughly inspected the brakes. Everything was fine. The blocks and discs are still at least 50% good. Everything is working smoothly, and I recently replaced the fluid as well. There's definitely no air in the system. Just as a side note...
Next time, I will test different types of blocks with the same type of disc. However, it will take some time... I currently have a 90% success rate. And with my driving style...cruising...crawling...whatever you want to call it...it probably won't happen this year.

Hello Wolle,
If your neighbor is already asking if your brakes are worn out, that should give you something to think about.

Even if you only describe your driving style as 'crawling' and 'cruising,' you'll hardly let 'Tuckers' (presumably referring to a specific type of vehicle or driver) overtake you on the Autobahn.

What I mean is, if you have a braking distance that's only 6 meters longer at 100 km/h than you would with properly functioning brakes, that means you're playing a bit of a dangerous game with your health.

For you, this means that you will either be standing still with functioning brakes immediately before the obstacle, or (with only 6 meters longer braking distance) you will be hitting it at more than 30 km/h.

I believe you can figure out which option is cheaper without using a calculator.

Please give me your license plate number so that I can always be sure that you are not driving behind me. icon_evil.gif

Regards, Golfchriss.

@Golfchriss

Nope, it's not working with the license plate.

Possibly, I didn't express myself clearly... it was wet when my friend drove it, and he wasn't familiar with the "Schrecksekunde" (presumably a specific feature or setting). If the car then decelerates after that "second," it will do so exactly as it should.
My inspection was purely a precautionary measure. I probably should have explained that more clearly... sorry.
If you still want my license plate number, please ask the other 100,000 Audi drivers who also experience the "sudden fright" problem to provide their license plate numbers as well. Then your journey will never be boring, because you can always look for a "familiar" license plate... icon_twisted.gif (just kidding...).
