Hi,
What's wrong with simply faking the speedometer readings or generating them from the engine speed pulses, and then running the device in cruise control mode? That way, you achieve the desired regulation with a constant RPM, without any modifications to the characteristic maps.
If you want to get really fancy, you can add an AVR microcontroller in between that controls the system based on the plus and minus inputs of the cruise control potentiometer.

Regarding the tube-and-fin cooler: The standard liquid cooling system only has a large surface area on the outside, and inside there are only a few 'flow channels.' Since water provides better heat transfer, a smaller tube-and-fin cooler with roughly the same internal surface area should be sufficient.

Okay, cheers to the turbine! Do you realize that this is a turbocharger with an external wastegate? There are many TDI engines with VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) turbos, and those can present control issues. And honestly, that thing is huge. I wouldn't try it... but you should know.

hi,
Here's a different, and hopefully interesting, question.
'Here, boats with engine outputs ranging from 80 to 180 horsepower have been frequently used, and I started wondering what the maximum power output is that's allowed to be installed in a boat of this size.'
Regarding passenger cars, a different braking system needs to be installed if certain performance levels are exceeded.
For a passenger car, the dimensions of various components can vary significantly depending on the engine's power output, ranging from 80 to 180 horsepower.
Is there something similar available in the boating sector?
'Surely there will also be a TÜV inspection available, right?'
Best regards, G.

Hi,
If my memory of Wolfgang's page (link somewhere above) is correct, his Volvo-Penta gasoline engine has 204 horsepower. Therefore, it shouldn't be a problem to use a diesel engine with less than 200 horsepower.

Hello Matthias,
I don't want to buy this turbo either. I just did a quick search on eBay for water-cooled turbos. Right now, I only have a basic understanding of turbos. There's still a lot I need to learn. Also, the OM 601 engine will be going into our boat this winter. Converting it to a TDI will come later and will likely take another year or more. Before installing the OM 601, I need to make several fundamental changes to the boat that won't be necessary when we eventually convert it to a TDI.
Here is:
Return line for diesel supply.
Replacing the exhaust system.
Convert the gearbox housing to a standard connection.
Replacing the engine mounts in a boat.
Convert the cockpit to use standard VDO gauges; we have sensors available for all engine types.
Since we are only allowed to drive at 12 km/h in Berlin anyway, except for the channel leading to Müggelsee where 25 km/h is permitted, we can manage with the OM 601 engine for the next two years.
After that, we're heading back to Croatia, specifically the island of Krk. From there, we'll start our summer tour. If the weather isn't great, we'll only make it as far as Zadar. But if the weather is fantastic, we'll drive all the way to Dubrovnik and then back to Krk. It will be four weeks of pure nature. Gruß Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,
Liquid-cooled engines are standard in the Audi A8 V6 TDI (expensive), or were even available as early as the 1990s in the Peugeot.
Data on liquid manure in French.
Valeo 816790.
This part was originally installed in the Citroen XM 2.2TD, Peugeot 405 2.2TD, and 605 2.5TD models.
It costs approximately €300 to €350 new.
Dimensions: 407 x 227 x 105 mm.
This cooler is quite commonly used by T3 drivers who are converting to TDI engines, but "only" with 4-cylinder TDIs. However, for seawater cooling, this intercooler should also be suitable for 5-cylinder engines, as it was originally designed for a 2.5TD engine.
Alternatively, you can also look at tuners who may offer a compatible electric coolant pump as well. You can find an expansion tank from almost any scrapped car; the Volkswagen Golf 2 has a particularly nice one (regardless of engine variant). Here's an example of a tuner:
http://www.busschmiede.de/ersatzteile_zubehoer/ladeluftkuehler_vw-bus.htm
The air-water separator designed for the front of a car is not useful in a boat, but all the individual components are available separately from the bus parts supplier.
Regarding the speed control:
In calm freshwater conditions, a load regulation system for the engine should work well. However, in rough seas, there are constant changes in load due to wave action, so a speed control system would be beneficial. The suggestion of simulating a speed signal and using it to regulate the engine via the cruise control seems like a good approach.

I haven't been in touch for a while, but I have some new pictures of the conversion project: installing a Volvo Penta AQ 290 Z-drive onto the OM 601 engine. The seawater pump has been attached to the power steering pump.

Okay, it's time to go ashore again.
The Mercedes engine has now been working for almost 3 years without any problems.
I've added some more information to my website about the conversion process.
http://home.arcor.de/duwbiedermann/Dieselumruest/Dieselumruestung_OM_601.htm
Now I'm working on the next stage of development.
Contrary to my initial plan, I will not be marine-izing a VW TDI.
I have decided to use the 2.9-liter 5-cylinder Mercedes engine, model OM602A.
to marinate.
Here are the initial data I've gathered.
http://home.arcor.de/duwbiedermann/Dieselumruest/OM_Dieselumruestung/MB_Dieselumruestung.htm
DMV in Rastede offers this marine engine with 140 horsepower.
Okay, here are my questions: This engine was installed in the E-Class, Sprinter vans, and G-series SUVs. In those models, it was the OM602.980/981/982/983/984 variants.
It can also be built as an industrial engine. In this configuration, it has either 122 or 129 horsepower.
The engines are equipped with electronic fuel injection and an engine control unit.
The DMV engine apparently does not have electronic fuel injection.
Can anyone tell me what type of mechanical fuel injection pump might be installed here?
Are there water-cooled turbochargers and intercoolers available for this engine? Gruß Wolfgang

Hello,
The 602.982 is already quite heavily electrified. The ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator) is electrically controlled, and it also sends out other control signals. I would rather try to make the connector waterproof.
A VE5/11E 2000 R642 pump is installed.
V = Distributor injection pump.
E = Size
5 = Number of cylinders.
11 = Diameter of the pump piston in mm.
E = Electronically controlled.
2000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute).
R = Direction of rotation.
642 = Execution
I hope this helps you in some way. Grüße Buddy

Hello buddy,
Wcontinue we the
Intake air temperature.
Coolant temperature.
Temperature Fuel
evaluated and the exhaust gas recirculation is controlled.
And the immobilizer had to be installed as well.
The engine from DMV Marines apparently does not have electronic fuel injection.
And also, it has 10 more horsepower.
http://www.dmv-bootsdiesel.de/Deutscher%20Index/deutscher_index.html
under the 058 series in the price list.
If I could find a cheap car that has been in an accident and where I can remove all the parts, I would also get one.
Install electronic fuel injection.
Since it was also used as an industrial engine, I imagine that in this case, it might have been built with mechanical fuel injection. Gruß Wolfgang

Hello,
If you remove all the antennae and replace the electronic ESP adjuster with a manual one, then it should work, right? I think that's probably a simple solution.
Otherwise, you could ask Bosch what they think about whether it's feasible to mechanize the MSW process, or if they might have a more cost-effective solution available.
I can also gladly send you the technical drawings and description of the ESP via email. Then you can assess for yourself whether the conversion is feasible.
"Or try to get the motor code from that industrial engine. I can then check if there's anything about it in the WIS (Workshop Information System). Otherwise, just contact Mercedes directly. If you have a friendly dealership nearby that also works on commercial vehicles, they should be able to help you."
Greetings, buddy. Grüße Buddy
