Hello everyone.

Can anyone recommend a good brake caliper retraction tool for hobby mechanics?
"Should fit" VAG vehicles and "must" fit the Opel Astra J brake system.

Thank you for your help.
Peter.

Hello Bindpe,
You can make it yourself from a suitably sized piece of pipe from a metalworking shop or hardware store (it can even be made from a pipe wrench). The important thing is that it engages with the grooves on the piston. You can probably buy a ready-made one from tool suppliers, such as Hazet.

Evening.
"Are there regular offers for €20 available everywhere?" It should be more than enough for hobby use.

Hello!

You can find these tool sets in every workshop, at E***, and at all sorts of retailers.

The newer ones have 2 spindles, meaning they have both left-hand and right-hand threads.
A large number of adapter plates are also included. They fit everywhere.

As far as I can tell from a quick visual inspection, these are all the same items, except for the color of the suitcases, the brand labels, and the prices (ranging from 20 to 200 euros).

My caliper is now 15 years old, outdated, and only has one spindle, and I had to adjust and shorten it because it no longer fit in some newer brake calipers.
But it wasn't a bad purchase. No problem.
Grüße, Steffen!

You can actually buy the cheapest option; the only important thing is to regularly lubricate the threaded spindle.

I had to modify an adapter for a Passat 3C icon_sad.gif.

For the Passat 3C, you only need to press; the EPC system takes care of the turning.
The recesses in the piston are only present for other mechanical saddles due to a policy of using identical parts. icon_wink.gif

Not if the stepper motor is broken.

Hello,
I completely agree with the others here... I have a similar suitcase with two spindles (around 20€), and it works perfectly without any issues. I've already used the reset tool for various VW, Opel, and Nissan models, and there are actually enough adapter pieces included. As already correctly stated, adding a little oil occasionally will make such a part last forever, and it's better than any of these methods using clamps, pliers, etc. icon_confused.gif

Thank you for the answers.
I just bought one of those "cheap" suitcases, but it should be perfectly adequate for home use.
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate.
