Polo 6N Heat Exchanger

A connector is broken, so I have taken the water turbine (WT) out of operation to prevent coolant loss.

Unfortunately, to replace the water temperature sensor, the dashboard and the entire blower motor assembly must be removed. This is quite a significant amount of work.

Now I'm thinking about gluing a new piece onto the broken connection.

Does anyone have experience with this type of adhesive?

It depends on what the damaged area looks like. Is it just a crack? Where exactly is it broken? Does it just need to be sealed without any mechanical stress?
Approximately 1.5 bar of pressure in the cooling system already requires a certain level of structural integrity.

If it's one of the plastic pipes in front of the oval plate (viewed from the engine compartment, where the hoses connect), you could try adding a suitable brass pipe as well.
to be glued in as an "internal support sleeve" for stability, using e.g. Sikaflex 221.

Is it a completely broken piece? I see the problem with the connection between the plastic and the adhesive; the adhesive would need to be able to "melt" the plastic in order to create a proper and durable bond.

I have also repaired less stressed parts made of ABS or PP using a soldering iron, but it's crucial not to inhale the fumes produced during the process!

If the damage extends to the sides of the water tank, there is little chance of repairing it without removing the tank.

Many years ago, the connection fitting between the radiator and the expansion tank broke off on my Passat. The side pieces and the connection fitting were made of plastic.

I then generously glued a brass tube in place using a two-part adhesive.
Das hat mir bei Kommilitonen den Titel "weltgrößter Kesselflicker" eingebracht, aber für einen neuen Kühler hatte ich schlicht kein Geld.

1.5 years later, the car was disposed of for other reasons, and the radiator was still intact.

So, if you can get it to fit reasonably well and fix the connection in a way that minimizes mechanical stress (I just inserted the tube as far as it would go, and it was held in place on the back by a recess), I would say it's worth a try.

Indeed, the inlet nozzle has broken off due to material fatigue. The connection looks quite worn. There's still about 1 cm of it remaining before the injection molding cavity.

Since I still have another identical Polo that I use for parts, I've decided to use its heat exchanger. While it's the same age, it has only been used for 180,000 km, whereas the broken one had 440,000 km on it.

I think that should be enough for 2.5 years.

If you're going to the trouble of removing the dashboard, you should definitely have the 30 euros for a new heater core.

Most likely, the old, used heat exchanger will break during installation.

The price at the counter is 250€.

BTW: The car should last for another 2.5 years. After that, hopefully, the situation in the used car market will be more normal again.

Also, I always check daparto. That's why I had to laugh so much about the VW price.

Probably. I need to take a closer look. The heat seems to be affecting the plastic more than the age of the device. At least, that's my impression when I look at the connectors.

Both have their problems... When buying new, the only important thing is the brand.
