High beam permanently activated, VW Caddy

I have a VW Caddy III here that belongs to my cousin.
The ignition switch unit was defective, which meant the ignition could no longer be turned on.
Therefore, I was allowed to disassemble the entire unit and use a Dremel tool to take it apart in order to remove the cylinder.
The repair was successful; the car's steering lock is now released, and the ignition and starting functions are working again.

Unfortunately, since then, the high beam has been permanently activated. According to the wiring diagram, 6 wires run from the high beam switch to the slip ring, where they are adapted to the CAN bus in the control unit.

If I disconnect the cable from the switch to the slip ring, the high beam headlights turn off. In VCDS, I see the status as "horn" (meaning the lever is pulled) and, after disconnecting the cable, it shows "not activated." Mistakes are not discarded.

At the same time, I can test all the other functions on the levers, and they are working. (After disconnecting the plug, the turn signals also don't work, but they also run through the same 6 wires).

Subsequently, I replaced both the lever and the slip ring as a precaution, as measurements alone are not always sufficient to diagnose the problem. The error persists.

I'm slowly running out of ideas. Hopefully, someone else has a tip here.

Have you ever performed an actuator test and controlled the high beam directly from the BNS (Bordnetzsystem)? Disconnect the connector - if the high beam is off, access it via the actuator test.

This allows us to rule out the BNS as a source of error.

Are the part numbers for the steering column switches and slip ring correct?

Is the LDS okay?

Based on your description, I assume you have an H7 lighting system.

-High beam function works via actuator diagnosis even when the connector is disconnected.
- It is an H7 lighting system.
- LDS = Light switch? Yes, all levels are working.
- Part numbers: The steering column switch has the same part number. The slip ring has a "c" instead of a "b" at the back (5k0 953 549 b), which, according to some websites, should be compatible (and the error doesn't change at all when you replace it).
- Regarding the error memory: When the connector is disconnected, it naturally detects the error and stores it.

Is it possible that the wiring harness near the steering column is damaged in a place that isn't immediately visible?
I once had similar problems with the windshield wipers on my A3 8L. There was metal debris on the steering column switch.
If it were my car, I would use brake cleaner (be careful of plastic discoloration, test it first) and have rags ready to wipe it off, or ideally, with the car battery disconnected. Metal debris can sometimes cause sparks.
Or, let's start with compressed air.

I hadn't thought of that yet.

The problem has now been resolved. But you really couldn't make this stuff up.

The new used steering column switch was defective (with the same effect as the old one, namely constant high beam activation in the VCDS) and the new used slip ring is also defective. This cannot be encoded.

In conjunction with the new slip ring and the new steering column lever, an error message "Mechanical fault in the turn signal lever" was logged after a timeout (this time I had tested for a longer period), and the horn was deactivated.
After that, I went through all the possible scenarios again. The old lever arm doesn't store any mechanical errors, but neither does the new lever arm with the old slip ring.

After that, I opened the old lever and saw that the slider on the circuit board for the high beam wasn't properly seated. After the correction, it is now working as it should. --> On the old slip ring.

I rarely receive defective used parts, but getting two at once is quite a challenge...
