icon_question.gif Hello,
I'm dealing with the problem mentioned above. Measured from the rear axle, the Audi sits 20-25mm higher in the front. Has anyone else experienced this?

Here's the background: The vehicle appears to be accident-free. Ten months ago, the previous owner had the front shock absorbers replaced with Monroe shocks at a workshop. However, they were still making a cracking noise when compressing and rebounding, and the shock absorber nuts were loose, so I raised a complaint about this repair. The workshop was very fair and collected the vehicle, replacing all four springs and the front strut mounts. However, the problem persisted! When I inquired at an Audi workshop, they stated that it is highly unlikely that the wrong struts or suspension arms were installed.

I'm now faced with the choice of either installing complete lowering springs from a supplier or only installing lowering springs on the front axle. However, I'd really like to know the best solution, and I'm also not keen on having unbalanced handling due to overly stiff springs in the front.
Who can help?
Greetings, Donald.

Hello,

Even if the exact same springs were installed in the front, it's possible that the car is now higher than it was before.
Over the course of a few years, the feathers settle somewhat, so to speak, an automatic lowering icon_smile.gif.

Edit: Sorry, I missed that all 4 springs were replaced, so the car should be the same height all around.

Best regards, Rainer.

The B4 Avant TDI comes standard with a noticeably high ride height on the front axle. It's higher than other B4 Avants, etc. I've observed this myself on my own vehicle, and also on other B4 Avant TDIs. This effect is not as noticeable on other engine types or on sedan models.

The only option is to remove the factory-installed optical system and replace it with a standard sports suspension. I have a Sachs Performance Kit installed.
Don't talk such nonsense, and just replace the springs on the front axle. If you're going to replace springs, get a complete set for both the front and the rear. Then the vehicle will sit "normally," that's for sure icon_wink.gif. Something like 35mm lowering springs + original shock absorbers should be a relatively comfortable combination.

I've noticed the same effect on my G3 with the standard sport suspension, although it only appears that way because the front wheel arches are much wider than the rear ones.
That's why I suspect the same applies to the Audi 80.

If you compare the height of the front and rear lifting attachment points relative to the ground, and there's no difference, then I wouldn't worry.

Hello,

Thank you for your support. Just to be clear, the car looks like an airplane right before it takes off. It's nothing like 'normal' or 'settling.' The vehicle has a real problem.
Try to figure out how to use images; a picture is worth more than a thousand words.

Grateful for any idea, greetings, Donald icon_surprised.gif.

They once replaced a rusty spring for me while I was having the shock absorber changed on my old G3TD. However, it wasn't a CL spring, but a GT spring.
Then, I noticed a 2cm difference in height between the left and right sides of the front axle.
Stuff happens.

Just let a third, experienced pair of eyes take a look. Perhaps they will be able to identify that the colored spots on the feathers are fake by examining the code.

By the way, once again: I don't have to speculate icon_cool.gif.

I drive the vehicle exactly, just like Donald does.
and it really looks like an airplane taking off. Don't be tempted to install a wedge-shaped or any other type of landing gear.

For example, the Sachs Performance suspension is 35-35mm lower, and now it's even slightly lower in the front than in the rear.

Get a regular, good set of lowering springs, such as those from H&R or Eibach.

Thank you again for your help.
I will follow the advice given by F.A.Z., or is there anything else to consider?
Okay, I'm going to start looking for feathers now.

Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to upload images – which is a shame, because then you would really be able to see that this is not normal. Not only is the front axle too high, but the sills also extend significantly above the horizon at the front. Since the repair (with 4 new springs), the difference to the rear axle has become even greater – 25 mm (previously 20 mm). The grip on the front axle, especially in wet conditions, is very poor.

Greetings, Donald.

And the grip doesn't depend on the altitude.

Hi Donald,

I understand you perfectly; it's the same with my A6 4B! I now have an H&R coilover suspension, but it's set too low (and very stiff, although it's comfortable like a bed icon_wink.gif). I would also recommend springs, because a suspension system is very expensive.

Regards,

Holger.

It doesn't always have to be a coilover suspension (which essentially has very little to do with comfort)!
But new shocks rarely cause any harm. icon_wink.gif After all, you don't want to be bouncing around on the road.
