Interior Light Dimming: A Simple Question

...following the motto: there are no stupid questions:
In my old Golf IV (manufactured in 2000), the interior light would gently turn on and off.
(Input: When unlocking the door. Output: When turning the ignition).

Now (May 2003), I've noticed that it only turns off gently, but...
It started abruptly! I actually liked the "soft start" feature, but why is it...?
- and is it possible to reactivate it somehow?

Apparently, yes!

Do you simply take the interior light from your 2000 Golf 4, or do you order it from a dealer? The control mechanism is integrated into the light itself.

The control system is integrated into the light fixture.

Incorrect, it is located in the comfort control unit .
