Hi,
While using the "Service Reminder" function for the Audi A4 8K in the VCDS menu, I noticed:
In the displayed available channels, the entry "Channel 40 - Distance since inspection" should be changed to "Channel 40 - Distance since service". As in the case of "Channel 41 - Time since service," "service" refers to the long-life oil service, and accordingly, the values represent the kilometers driven or the elapsed time.
That could easily be changed editorially.
By the way, when "Resetting the flexible oil change interval" is selected, changes are recorded in APK files 2, 42, 43, 44, and 45, which in turn initializes changes in APK files 40, 41, 47, and 48 in the second step. I think it would probably be enough to just set APK 2 to 0; that would initialize all the changes.
When resetting the "Vehicle Inspection Service," the "APK 52 Baseline Distance" is reset, and "APK 53 Distance Since Inspection" is set to 0. "APK 55 - Time Since Inspection" remains unchanged.
This is not sufficient to set a completely new inspection interval of 30,000 km / 730 days. APK 55 needs to be reset to 0.
What's completely missing is the ability to adjust the new inspection interval until the next fixed mileage value (DiFi, ZR) or until the next fixed time value (brake fluid). To do this, the base values APK 52 and APK 54 would need to be adjusted.
There is no equivalent for this. Instead, the "Additional work (e.g., brake fluid) reset RdW" function is used. This resets "APK 54 Baseline Time" to its maximum value and sets "APK 55 Time since inspection" to 0. That also doesn't work, and it further deviates the service interval display from the service plan.

Hello Herbert,
The channels come directly from the control unit, and I don't know to what extent the text can be customized.
Please forward your feedback along with an Autoscan to support at ross-tech.com.

Hi Rainer,
To understand the situation properly, I first need to know what is actually represented in the STG (likely an abbreviation for a specific system or component). Sometimes, this information doesn't align with the settings and assignments found in the "Menu Service Reset" section. It remains to be seen where Ross-Tech has made the adjustments – whether in the module representation, in the APK files under VCDS/Adaptation, or in the Service Reset menu – but my interpretation aligns with the behavior of the service indicator.
I was wondering if Uwe from @Ross.Tech is reading this, or if he's letting someone else read it? If not here, then where else, at least for the market in the German-speaking region? Wastl is local press .

In the English original version (23.x), the entry in channel 40 is correct. Okay, hier ist die Übersetzung:
"So, this is definitely just about the German translation."
Similarly, the menu entry for resetting the time-based inspection is also quite clear. It's neutrally referred to as "Mileage-based Service Reset" and "Time-based Service Reset," where you can at least assign the intervals of 30,000 km and 730 days.
At least until here, it seems to be a special edition of the German translation.
What's also missing here is the flexibility to map fixed service events to specific remaining durations.
