By the way, the 2.0i engine from Opel was not an in-house development.
That's probably why that part worked so well and reliably.

These small diesel engines were originally manufactured by Isuzu (initially with a barely visible logo on the valve cover).

'And my 1.3S engine failed at 220,000 km due to compression problems in the 4th cylinder...'
nothing to do with the camshaft icon_razz.gif

Sure, and what about the reliability of the current 'Super-Diesel' engine? I have serious doubts, given how Opel has designed its previous 'eco-friendly' diesel engines.

are they all common rail?
So generally speaking, that statement is probably more likely to be false.
The new Audi 3.0 TDI has a common rail injection system, and I doubt that the common rail systems in BMWs, Mercedes-Benz vehicles, Peugeots, and Citroens are all the same, as they likely use different engine designs.

So, all common rail engines from all manufacturers are based on the Fiat common rail technology, because Fiat was the first to develop the common rail system.

Best regards,

Quite a bold thesis.

So, I imagine that by using a register charging system and a small, quick-responding turbocharger, it would be possible to build up boost pressure even when starting the engine.
Therefore, you can reduce the compression ratio and safely increase the boost pressure.
To the best of my knowledge, the lower limit for the compression ratio is around 1:17, which is what the new BMW engines have. Engines with a compression ratio below this value, especially those with high mileage, may have difficulty starting.

Those are my thoughts.

Well, honestly, Opel and Fiat... overall, that doesn't sound very good.
Even just thinking about each individual aspect gives me goosebumps.

@TagessuppeViewing profile: Tagessuppe:

The new Honda 2-liter diesel engine has an even lower compression ratio, somewhere around 1:16.X. This is intended to improve running smoothness and reduce friction.

It definitely reduces the efficiency and puts more strain on the engine, which probably wouldn't be able to handle it otherwise. There's no other plausible reason to abandon the typically high compression ratio found in diesel engines.
I suspect the 2L Honda engine is a 'dieselized' gasoline engine.

You probably mean 2.2 liters, or do they also have a 2-liter version?
The 2.2 definitely has a compression ratio of 1:16.7.
I'm curious to see if the engine lives up to its promises.

Sorry, it's actually a 2.2-liter engine.

However, it's a completely new design, and the data for a first edition suggests a lot of potential for further development: 140 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque.

According to tests in various automotive magazines, its running culture is absolutely excellent, which is typical for a CR engine. The engine mounting is designed with a pendulum system, similar to that in the G IV. A special casting process, in which the aluminum of the engine block is compressed in a semi-solid state, achieves high strength values, and the wall thickness between the cylinders could be kept as low as 3 mm. The compression ratio was deliberately set low to achieve these advantages.

The consumption figures seem to confirm this, as the measured fuel consumption is excellent for such a large and heavy car.

What companies say about themselves doesn't always have to be completely accurate. BMW once praised the positive steering knuckle radius, but not everyone knows that a positive radius is worse than a negative one. Or the criticism about excessive engine displacement and cylinder numbers, when they didn't even have a 12-cylinder engine in their lineup yet.

Oh yes, BMW *g*.

When Mercedes introduced the first 4-valve diesel engines, they said:
We sell engines, not valves.
How many valves do BMW's newer diesel engines have?
Furthermore, Ewig did not manufacture direct injection engines.
because their customers would prefer the smoothness of operation over power consumption.
You can see it.

'Damn engine. It holds 6.9 liters of oil, including the filter, and you have to change it every 20,000 km. Someone clearly didn't think that through. Also, the insurance classification is extremely unfavorable; it's a joke, really, any Golf 2 GTI driver would be laughing.'
