Hello.
"Do you think it would be a good idea to change the transmission oil after 350,000 km? (Engine codes: AHU/GKB ASD). I haven't had any problems with the transmission except that it's a bit difficult to shift gears in cold temperatures."

I've often read on other forums that leaks have occurred after an oil change because the new oil is thinner. What are your experiences with this?

What do you think? Should I try to improve the transmission's performance and risk leaks, or should I just leave the old oil in?

THANK YOU.

I would switch.
I doubt it's a leak. For that to happen, the old oil would have had to be very thick, and in that condition, proper functioning would likely have been severely compromised.

It is recommended to change it; in my case, it was changed at 220,000 km, and since then, the shifting has been easier, especially when cold. As of today, with 347,000 km, the transmission is still dust-dry icon_wink.gif. The old oil was noticeably darker than the fresh oil.

Okay, I'll give it a try...apparently, the transmission appears to be dry on the outside.
Do you have any specific recommendations? Synthetic? Semi-synthetic?

"Besides the 17mm Allen key, are any other special tools required? Is there a sealing ring or similar component on the drain plug?"

If you don't have a 17mm Allen key, use a long nut with...
A 17mm wrench is a very inexpensive alternative.
The screw should have a conical thread – therefore, no sealing ring is needed.

And remember this tip: first remove the fill screw, then remove the outlet screw.

Weld two old wheel nuts together with the threads facing each other icon_smile.gif.

It can also be done with a suitable or appropriately filed pipe wrench. A size of 13x14 or 14x15 should work. icon_wink.gif

It's always a question of the effort involved icon_cool.gif.
The hardware store is right next door to me, and the price in this case was €0.
Welding/filing would have taken longer.

Definitely make it simple! New oil never hurts, and the shifting behavior (operating forces, synchronization) often improves significantly shortly thereafter.
I've only had good experiences with Castrol fully synthetic oils, so I would recommend those.
I haven't usually been able to reach the specified fill amounts, so it's probably sufficient to buy, for example, two 1-liter bottles if the required amount is 2.1 liters. In a real pinch, you can always add a little bit from your "good old" supply.

Hello.
According to Volkswagen, the part number G 060 726 A2 is the correct one for my transmission.
Costs approximately 8 euros per liter. Which manufacturer is behind it?

Thank you.

Um NÖ.

I think it should be G 052726A2.

We have "converted" a T4 from 1991, needing a G 060726A2, to use Castrol TAF-X (and having a longer 5th gear), and it immediately shifted much better... and still does icon_wink.gif.

Now things are getting philosophical.
G 060 726 A2 appears to be the successor of G 052 726 A2, as indicated in the parts catalog for the ASD. However, both could potentially be SAE 75W.
Please check the specifications in your operating manual.
It is important that the oil is suitable for gearboxes and axles. For Castrol, I found the Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90, which meets VW specification 501.50 and API GL+. Shell offers the EP 75W-90 with the same properties.

Do all vehicles from the Volkswagen Group actually use 75W90 oil in their transmissions and differentials?

I got myself the G 060 726 A2. Why? Because it already worked for the last 350,000 km icon_wink.gif.
I will report again after the change.
