Hi.

I just read the article about installing an engine heater, and I find it an interesting topic, especially the price compared to a standing heater.

I'm now curious if anyone has ever installed something like this in an ASZ (Automatisierte Sortieranlage - Automated Sorting System).
Where does it go, into the block (which I wouldn't prefer) or between two hoses?
Und wie sieht es mit der Wirkung aus, die Dinger haben ja (in Gegenastz zur Stansheizung) keine Pumpe o.ä. ... OR?
Does the heat distribute on its own, because if only one section of the hose gets warm, it's not really very useful.

Hello.
What do you mean?

"An engine pre-heater? I'm familiar with those from fire trucks - there's a heating element inside."
The water circulation system (located near the radiator) constantly keeps the coolant at a lukewarm temperature. This means you can immediately start driving at full throttle when using it.

Or a pre-heater? I'm familiar with those from the T4 TDI. It turns on when the temperature is below 7 degrees Celsius (I think).
When the ignition is turned on or the engine is running, it functions somewhat like a small auxiliary heater, warming the coolant. This is because TDI engines can sometimes struggle to warm up the interior quickly (efficiency).

Best regards, Thorsten.

So, the ASZ, like my AXR, falls into the second category. It's a pre-heater in the hose.
The effect of the block heater was noticeably better, but unfortunately, such a part is not available for PD engines.
An additional pump would certainly bring the effect up to the level of a block heater. However, unfortunately, suitable pumps are sold at prices that are simply outrageous.

Hi.

Thanks in advance for your reply!

And to everyone who happens to be visiting: Merry Christmas icon_cool.gif.

I already thought that the block heater is better. icon_sad.gif
But how big is the difference, and is a 'hose heater' (without a pump) even worth it?
Or is the engine then only 2 degrees warmer, and nothing else icon_question.gif?

Hello,

That's exactly what I was also considering installing. One option would be the auxiliary water pump from the T4. The cost is €138 icon_eek.gif. That's a lot of money for a small thing.

Best regards, Christian.

?

That's significantly more. The engine runs smoothly right away. It's as if it wasn't a cold start.
If you'd like to take a look, please let me know.

Hello,

I don't necessarily have to watch it, and I believe you, but thank you for the offer!

So, if I understand you correctly, the 'hose heater' is definitely worth it icon_idea.gif.
That makes me very curious – where did you get yours, and how much did it cost?
The installation should be relatively straightforward... ?
How long do you preheat?

Regards,
Andre.

Yes.

I got that one about relationships. I can't remember the exact price, but those things are incredibly expensive these days.
If I were to look at the special offers for parking heaters, I would probably take advantage of them.
For me, a parking garage heater is not an option because of the parking space.

Yes.

Ich Persönlich heize rund ein halbe Stunde vor. That's enough for me.
If the car is parked outside, you'll need to run the heating for a longer period.
Colleagues in Sweden (where these devices are commonly used) preheat them for up to 3 hours (even in temperatures as low as -25°!).

I recently inquired directly with Calix about parts for my Audi B4 1Z.
Conclusion: While there is one that fits, you would have to grind off a small piece of the motor mount, which is not recommended. Furthermore, there is no General Operating Permit (ABE) for the B4. icon_evil.gif
Well, tough luck.

Hi.

Could you tell me how much power these things consume?
I was thinking of using a smart plug for this, but most of them can only handle 1 kW...

0.5 - 2.2 kW, depending on the configuration.

You will probably need to ask specific questions.

Hi.

Thank you again for all the answers so far!

I have this thing here, it goes into the hose leading to/from the oil-water heat exchanger, and there's a metal bracket in the packaging that you can obviously use to attach it.
Now the question is, since none of this is mentioned in the instructions, does it make sense to additionally secure it, or are the hoses sufficient to hold the thing in place 'on their own'?

"So, in my case, there wasn't a protractor included."
It's not staying in place for me. I've secured the cable end to the radiator fan strut with a cable tie.

Hi.

Okay, so the thing is installed and it seems to be working pretty well so far.

I think (as mentioned above) that a pump could significantly improve the effect!

I could, for example, get an 'Eberspächer circulation pump for all water-based heating systems.'
Would this part be useful? Where and how are these pumps installed?

Thank you to everyone who has helped me up to this point!
